Four questions worth asking first
They save both of you a wasted trip across town, and they are the questions experienced hirers always lead with.
- 01Is the rego current, and can I see it?A plate number lets you check the registration status yourself through the WA Department of Transport. Any owner acting in good faith will give it to you without hesitating.
- 02Does your insurance cover a hire driver?Ask it exactly like that. “It is fully comp” is not an answer to this question. Most standard policies exclude hire. If they have not checked with their insurer, ask them to before you commit.
- 03What happens if it breaks down?Is there roadside assistance on the vehicle, who pays for it, and are you expected to keep paying the daily rate while it is off the road? Sort this out before it matters, not during.
- 04What is the minimum hire, and is the monthly rate negotiable? Most owners will move on price for a longer commitment. The listed weekly rate is a starting point, not a fixed tariff.
